Setup

Object ball one diamond out from a corner pocket, straight in. Cue ball two diamonds behind it on the same line.

Stop · stun · draw setupcue ballobject ball2 diamonds

How to do it

  1. 1

Stop: hit slightly below centre so the cue ball stops dead where it hits the object ball.

  2. 2

Stun: hit a touch higher than for the stop, so the cue ball drifts forward only a few centimetres after contact.

  3. 3

Draw: hit clearly below centre with a smooth, accelerating stroke so the cue ball comes back at least one diamond.

Five attempts per shot type. Count a success when the object ball is pocketed and the cue ball does what you called. Pass: 4/5 on each.

Progressions

  • Move the cue ball one diamond further back.
  • Draw back to a target (a coin) instead of just 'back'.
