Accessories

The small things that make a difference: what each one is for, and what you actually need.

Essentials

  • Chalk

Use a fresh-looking cube and chalk before every shot. Brush it on, don’t grind it.

  • Cue case

Protects your cue from knocks, heat and damp. A hard case is worth it.

  • Tip tool

Shapes and roughens the tip so it holds chalk. Many combine a shaper and a scuffer.

At the table

  • Glove

A thin glove for the bridge hand so the cue glides smoothly, even in a humid room.

  • Mechanical bridge

A stick with a notched head for shots you can’t reach. Also called a rake.

  • Extension

Screws onto the butt of your cue for long shots.

  • Chalk holder

A clip or magnet that keeps your chalk on your belt, not on the rail.

Cue care

  • Shaft cleaner

A cloth or leather burnisher that removes chalk and keeps the shaft smooth. Avoid sandpaper.

  • Joint protectors

Caps for the joint ends when the cue is in its case.

  • Tip pick

Pricks the tip lightly so it holds chalk again when it gets glazed.

At home

  • Wall cue rack

Stores cues upright so they stay straight. Keep it away from heaters and windows.

  • Table brush

A soft brush for the cloth, used in straight strokes.

  • Table cover

Keeps dust, light and pets off the cloth.

  • Ball cleaner

A cleaning liquid or a ball polisher keeps balls rolling true.

  • Rack template

A thin plastic sheet for perfect, tight racks every time.
